My name is Ray Lambert and I am a retired firefighter.My wife Cheryll was also a first responder. She was first diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at age 35. I have watched her life turn into a living hell...medications that stopped working, side effects that are worse than the disease; high dose steroids that cause severe mood swings, depression, and joint problems.
Through all this, she always has a huge smile on her face and remains a very kind and caring person who will tell you she's fine, but in reality is hurting physically and mentally.
There is a way to end this ongoing nightmare for her-it's called HSCT, short for Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant. This treatment will stop the disability progression of her MS right now. Even with ten years of clinical trials, studies, etc the FDA has not approved it. This procedure costs $54,500 and not one red cent is covered by insurance. I can't believe that with all clinical trials and success rate of this procedure (97%), the FDA allows MS patients like her or worse to continue suffering daily. It's not only debilitating to the patient, but also takes a heavy toll on families.
This procedure can only be done with the MS in early stages; once this disease progresses to a certain point, even this procedure will not help. So time to act becomes extremely important.
