Malawi Mission Trip 2014

Donation protected
Hello all! My name is Alex Harmening, and I am currently a senior in Auburn University's Professional Nursing program. This past Spring, I was presented with the opportunity to travel to Malawi, Africa as part of my Public Health Nursing and Obstetrics curriculum. I have a heart for helping others and love to travel, so I immediately jumped at this journey!

I am incredibly blessed God has led me to this opportunity. Right now, I have a portion of the funds needed to travel to Malawi. I will have to obtain a loan for the balance that I am unable to raise. I would greatly appreciate any donation including supplies to donate to the orphanage or any old Auburn teeshirts/souvenirs that I could take to pass out to Malawians. If you do not feel comfortable using this website to donate, message me or my parents through facebook. No donation is too small!! Thank you all for your prayers and support! I will continue to update everyone on my experience!

Auburn University School of Nursing is partnered with 100X Development Foundation to travel to Malawi and provide community care to Malawians through the help of the Kumuzu College of Nursing. Care will primarily be focused on mothers and newborns, as well as diagnostic screening for HIV and malaria. We will travel with students from the Kumuzu College of Nursing to several local villages, work at Blessings Hospital, and set up mobile clinics.

Right now, 1 in 36 women in Malawi will die due to complications and lack of medical care during pregnancy and delivery. It is also estimated that about 770,000 Malawians die yearly due to HIV and AIDS. This leaves Malawi with over one million orphans. During our trip, we will be staying at a local orphanage called Mtendere Village. We will be spedning time with the children living there, and taking supplies to help meet their basic needs.
