Dots Vet Bills

Pretty recently, my partner and I were lucky enough to adopt two loving, energy filled pups. One of our girls’ is named Dot and her sister is named Dash. Even though getting our girls was not necessarily planned, we wouldn’t change anything. We love them both with our whole heart and have really been working hard to train them and give them the best life possible.
Just about three days ago Dot began feeling ill. It started with vomiting and her being lethargic so my partner and I were under the impression that she had been car sick from driving up and down the coast. However, it became clear that this was much more serious than car sickness as the day went by. She continued to throw up and as we monitored her, we noticed there was now blood in her vomit. After seeing what appeared to be blood and stomach bile in her vomit we called every local vet looking for someone who would see her immediately. Due to Covid- this was more challenging than expected; many vets are not accepting walk-ins or new animal patients. Following countless attempts, we finally located a vet who would see her that day without an appointment- with a large fee of course.
Shortly after arriving at this vet, we began to feel uneasy with the way ourselves and our dog were being treated. Because of our limited options, we tried to work with this vet and had some tests run on Dot. We were able to conclude that she did not have Parvo and the mystery of what was wrong with her continued. This particular vet seemed to be far more concerned about discussing money over treatment options that would be helpful for Dot. The vet in this office approached treatment with a remarkable lack of urgency even after mentioning that Dot was “very, very sick.” Eventually, they offered to keep her overnight but seemed extremely indifferent about her well being so we decided it would be the best option to take her home for treatment. We followed their instructions and began home treatment with an antibiotic IV and nausea meds hoping this would be the solution.
This morning we woke up and Dot’s condition had gotten much worse. She could no longer stand or support herself and it was heartbreaking to see our baby in such pain. She had been getting worst by the minute and eventually it had gotten so bad that we rushed to the emergency vet in town that we were super hesitant to take her to initially (because of their fees) BUT we were relieved to be greeted with honesty and care. This vet was straight with us about costs and her condition, which he also addressed as her being very very sick and was willing to take action. After receiving an update a few hours ago, it seems that she must have gotten into something super poisonous that was attacking her body from the inside. Her calcium was dangerously low and she had no white blood cells working to defend her body from infection. This vet has shown compassion and a true concern for Dot’s recovery so we decided to take all of their advice. Dot is currently staying overnight at the hospital for aggressive treatment and monitoring and we’re told she is making the slow steps towards recovery with
It’s a very difficult time for my partner and I as we are in the process of moving and have been using all extra money towards that. We absolutely hate having to ask for any help but at this point, our options are truly limited. The goal for this GoFundMe is based directly on the cost of Dot’s treatment, one overnight stay is $1500 and we are currently being recommended a four night stay. In addition, we have already spent over $800 attempting home treatment and running tests with the previous vet. The need for this treatment was super unanticipated and frankly, this is the worst time financially that this could have happened.

Her sister needs her and so do we- she is an amazing pup and we just want to do everything in our power to give her the best possible treatment under the circumstances. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and please consider donating. Any amount helps and is majorly appreciated.
