<img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/51804350_1602348171487572_r.jpeg" alt="51804350_1602348171487572_r.jpeg" width="100%" media_type="3" /> The goal of the Agnes Flood Documentary Project is to produce a 90-minute documentary that will be considered the definitive film on the 1972 Agnes Flood and how it affected the Wyoming Valley of Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. The film will accomplish this goal by combining Agnes-related material from various sources, including: 1) Actual news archives from the ABC, NBC and CBS evening news which show how the Agnes disaster in the Wyoming Valley was covered nationally. Much of  this footage has not been seen in nearly 50 years, but producers of the film have already acquired most of it. 2) The best photos from the four Agnes commemorative books that were published in the 1970s. These books are long out of print, but some of the photos are remarkable and quite moving. 3) News footage from local TV stations, including WNEP-TV, WBRE-TV, WVIA-TV and the former WDAU-TV. 4) Excerpts from the book “Appointment With Disaster: The Swelling of The Flood,” the definitive text on the Agnes flooding of the Wyoming Valley. 5) Local radio broadcast that aired during Agnes. (WARM radio.) 6) Personal photographs and home movies of Agnes from residents of the Wyoming Valley. 7) Archived interviews with people that lived through Agnes and assisted in recovery. 8) Newspapers that were published during and following Agnes. 9) Timepiece references to pop culture, including music, film and television. All of this material is available, but unfortunately, it has never been pulled together into one place. That is the mission of this project. Equally important is the desire to show the resiliency and the spirit of the people of the Wyoming Valley and how they worked together to overcome what at the time was the greatest natural disaster in the history of the United States. It is hoped that the film will serve as an educational tool for generations to come and as a definitive historical reference for the people of Luzerne County. The film be be released in June of 2022 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of "Agnes." This on a non-profit production that is being done in cooperation with the Wilkes-Barre Preservation Society, which is a 501c3 organization. Funds are needed, however, to help cover production costs and some licensing fees.
