Aggie's Fight to Finish Cancer

Donation protected
Aggie Morgenthal was diagnosed for the first time in 2002, just 18 months after the birth of her son, Tommy. Her doctor broke the news that she had stage 2A breast cancer. She started treatment at the Memorial Breast Cancer Center in Hollywood, Florida, where she underwent a lumpectomy followed by chemotherapy and radiation.

At the end of that first round of treatment, Aggie wanted to thank all the people who had been there help her and her family. She wanted to, as she put it, “celebrate life.” And so, she and her husband Tom planned a “Celebration of Life” party for the many friends and family who had reached out to them during her treatment. That first event was a simple dinner party at their house with some live entertainment, but over time, the celebrations grew. Aggie saw the Celebrations of Life as an opportunity to help others who were battling breast cancer, and decided to use future events as fundraisers, and started her own 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization to do so.

The next event was bigger, more ambitious–a full production fashion show featuring breast cancer survivors that included makeup artists, hair stylists, and a news anchor emcee from the local CBS News affiliate. It was called the Denim and Diamonds Breast Cancer Survivors Fashion Show Gala, and it was a hit. The fundraiser was a huge success, and the Morgenthals gave away every penny. Part of the funds went directly to the Memorial Breast Cancer Center in Hollywood, Florida, where Aggie first underwent treatment. The rest went to La Liga Contra El Cancer, an organization that helps Latina women who do not have insurance or critical funds to aid in their battle with cancer. In the years that followed, Aggie continued to plan and execute silent auctions, dinner events, raffles, and more to raise money for these causes so dear to her heart.

Her own cancer returned in 2012, after 9 and a half years in remission. This time, she underwent a radical mastectomy and reconstruction surgery. She remained hopeful throughout her procedures and the recovery process that followed, and continued to be a rock for her family and friends. Her husband has, on more than one occasion, summed up Aggie’s toughness throughout the ordeal with two simple words: “She’s nails.”

In 2017, 15 years after her initial diagnosis, the cancer returned for a third time. This time, it was classified as metastatic breast cancer, stage 4. Less than two years later, in January of 2019, doctors determined the cancer had moved into her liver, and that brings us to where we are today.

If you’ve ever met her, you know that Aggie is a very special kind of person. She is rarely idle, always working towards a new goal, whether at work or in her own life. She is quick with a witty remark and quicker to help a friend in need. Her friends and coworkers treasure her wisdom and her compassion immeasurably. She is a loving wife to her husband, Tom, and a wonderful mother to her 18-year-old son, Tommy. Aggie has always viewed her battle with cancer as a learning experience, an opportunity to grow, and most importantly, a reason to help others, and her indominable spirit is a constant inspiration to everyone around her. Aggie has continued her giving back and helping vision, she’s been very active in her local market with raising research dollars for the South Carolina Susan G. Komen affiliate in Greenville, SC.

Friends of Aggie and the Morgenthal family started this GoFundMe in honor of that spirit. Aggie is a helper, and now, we hope that you will consider sending her some help. Money raised from this campaign will be given to the Morgenthals as relief toward their critical medical costs. Every donation helps, as does every share on social media to help us spread the word.
