Rotary Footbridge for Child Safety

The Rotary Club of Dupont Circle is pleased to present the following joint effort to support the construction of a footbridge: The Shavanhowe River floods during Zimbabwe’s rainy season (December to April), creating a high risk for children trying to reach their school on the other side. During the past 5 years, 14 people have died crossing the river. The local community and the Rotary Club of Harare City have proposed building a footbridge across the river to provide safe passage.
Successful completion of this footbridge project will ensure; 1) children will be safer traveling to school 2) school attendance will be improved and 3) parents will not have to supervise the river crossing multiple times a day, giving them time to spend on both household and income-generating activities.
