Support for Steve Wood

In October 2016 my Uncle Bubba was diagnosed with a progressive form of liver Cancer that had already spread to his lymph nodes. He is my Uncle but he’s more than that. He is a devoted husband, his two son’s best friend, he is “Papa Steve” to three of his grandchildren, he is “Bubba” and “Scuba Steve” to many who love him, he is Mama Sue’s second son and 6th child, he is a brother to 6 sisters, one of the hardest workers you’ll ever meet, but also one of the most fun to be around, and the list could go on..

Bubba is a fighter…you see. And one of the things that I admire about him most is that he has never had any reservations about what is worth fighting for and what’s important in life. Sometimes the lines get blurry for some of us. Sometimes we get all worked up over things that don’t really matter. Not Bubba. Bubba fights for family. He is someone that even if you’ve just met him, you are his family, and he is yours. He fights for me and you. He is someone who would rather spend an hour with you in an empty room, than go somewhere fancy without you.

I’m writing this to tell you what I believe Bubba would say to us all. I’m here to tell you what I believe would make him proud. And that is not to blur your lines, all we have is each other and the rest “is what it is” as he would say.

What I’m not here to do is write an entry about a man’s cancer treatments and his condition. I’m not here to tell a story about a man who could move mountains but now struggles to stand on his own. What I AM here to say is that he has the best support system to help him stand. He is strong because of us, and we will remain strong because of him. I am here to tell you not to be sad, and to keep loving and believing him like you always have. I know he feels that love. I’ll tell you that he thinks of us all daily and just wishes for “One More Day with You”.

I'll end with this: the days are predicted to get darker. In these days, any form of “light” is so greatly appreciated. My Aunt Debbie and immediate family members will need our help and support. Help is needed to cover medical expenses, and to help cover lost income due to Aunt Debbie’s medical leave to care for Bubba. Every dollar, cent, text, prayer, phone call, hug, and kiss counts.

                                                      With lots of love,
                                                                                 Kelsey
