Life is such a mysterious thing! I stopped going to Montgomery College in 2010 because I was wasting money and I didn't have a major. I took five years off and worked various jobs, Panera, managed a CiCi's Pizza, and joined the U.S. NAVY (I was medically discharged though.) It took long hours, minimum wage and attempting to live on my own to realize if I was going to work this hard I should be working towards something meaningful. A real goal, something I could be proud of everyday. I decided I would go back to my original dream and pursue it to the end!
In 2015 I paid my debt and enrolled in Montgomery College once again. My GPA was a 0.28 and I had to take some classes over. I started off with two classes, then three, then four and most recently five classes per semester. Due to me being on academic probation I've paid three semesters out of pocket. It's not guaranteed I will receive FAFSA this coming fall. But I am proud to say I made the Dean's List three out of four semesters! My current GPA is above a 2.44 (at the start of Spring semester) Spring 2017 I became a Student Senator, with goals to learn more about the political system as well as advocate for my fellow students. Im a General Studies STEM major (Montgomery College doesn't offer Biology as a major) and a double minor in Pan-African Studies and Political Science. I aspire to be an OB-GYN! Currently I sit on two commmittees, one student board and will be co-founding the Book Club this year 2017-2018.
In saying all that I can't afford to take a semester, or any time off from school. I currently owe $2,800 for the Spring semester. I am also asking for help to send me abroad to London to learn about the black experience since slavery in England for winter break. This would be my first trip out of the country and could greatly benefit me. I am also asking for funds to put towards the fall semester. I work at two gyms Washington Sports Club and Sport and Health. As well as babysit for a couple families. I plan to graduate Montgomery College with an Associate’s degree and transfer to a four year institute.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story, donating and passing this along. An even bigger thanks to my wonderful support system (family, friends, co-workers, and gym members that encourage me to keep pushing) this truly wouldn't be possible without all of you! Feel free to ask me any questions and add me on Facebook to keep up with me throughout the busy school year.
