<div>Nearly 90% of the population, more than 4000 people, is now living in tents in -20 degrees, as aftershocks continue and temperatures plunge. Hundreds of homes built over generations are uninhabitable. Food and belongings remain buried under rubble.

<div>When i met a young girl from Chipursan three years ago, long before the earthquake, i originally made a story about her progress in school, being the best in her class. Yesterday, she told me, <em>“I’m scared all the time the earthquake will happen again. It’s so cold in the tents. If we stay here, I feel like we will die.”</em>
