<div>My mum, Tracey, has lived in Rainham Village for over a decade. She worked in two local schools, supported families in the community, and quietly got on with life like so many hardworking people do.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Earlier this year, she nearly died.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>For months, she was unknowingly being poisoned by carbon monoxide inside the home she privately rented. The landlord failed to carry out proper gas safety checks and ignored repeated concerns. He neglected his duty to maintain a liveable standard In the house my mum worked hard to keep.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Mum was becoming more and more unwell — fainting, vomiting, forgetting things, suffering headaches, panic attacks, blackouts and seizures — while desperately trying to continue working and living normally.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Doctors repeatedly missed the cause.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Then in January 2025, she collapsed, suffered life-threatening seizures, went into cardiac arrest, was resuscitated, placed on life support and put into a medically induced coma.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>She survived — but her life has never been the same.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>My mum now lives with:
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>* Epilepsy and ongoing seizures
</div>
<div>* Memory loss and cognitive difficulties
</div>
<div>* PTSD and severe anxiety
</div>
<div>* A cracked spine and chronic pain
</div>
<div>* Heart complications
</div>
<div>* Limited mobility and physical weakness
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>She has lost both of her jobs, her independence, her confidence, and the life she once knew.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>And now, after everything she has survived, she is facing eviction from the same landlord whose negligence nearly killed her.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We have tried everything.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We have spoken with councillors, public protection officers, our local MP, environmental health, the police, and solicitors. We have evidence, reports, medical records, and police reference numbers. But private tenants battling landlords with money and resources are too often left powerless.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Even on a “no win, no fee” basis, the legal process has stalled because the landlord refuses to cooperate or provide the insurance details needed for negotiations to progress. Meanwhile, my mum is left suffering physically, emotionally, and financially.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>She desperately needs:
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>* A safe place to live
</div>
<div>* Money for a rental deposit and moving costs
</div>
<div>* Support with food, bills and travel to medical appointments
</div>
<div>* Safety equipment for her home due to seizures and blackouts
</div>
<div>* Legal funding to continue fighting for justice
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>On the outside, my mum may look “normal”. But inside, she is completely broken. She lives in fear, suffers seizures weekly, and can no longer do the simple things she once loved — even lifting her grandchildren safely.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We are urgently trying to raise:
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>* £4,000 to secure emergency rehousing and basic stability
</div>
<div>* £10,000 to pursue legal action and finally hold this landlord accountable
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This could happen to anyone.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Your parent, your child, your friend — anyone renting privately and trusting that their home is safe.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Please, if you can donate, share, or simply help spread awareness, we would be forever grateful.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thank you for reading Tracey’s story.
