After 14 Months of Chemo, Lee Needs A Comfort Pet

Our Lee is a very brave 12yr old who has had over a year of intense treatment for cancer.  This has taken a toll on him not only physically but also mentally and emotionally.  He is desperate for a small dog that he can cuddle when he's scared or sad and sleep with at night to comfort him.  This little boy has been in and out of the hospital every week, sometimes staying for over a month, he's had 19 lumbar punctures, a lot of blood and platelet transfusions, three stays in the ICU, two central line insertions, two anaphylactic reactions to treatments, two PET scans, multiply MRIs and X-rays, blood tests every week, chemo most weeks (sometimes every day) and numerous other procedures so when he says that he would like a dog to help him cope, I want to do everything possible to give him what he needs. While normally we would not try to raise funds to get a dog, I have taken a year and a half off of work to care for Lee, we are unable to  comfortably put out the big intial outlay for a dog. He would like a small, hypoallergenic puppy which are often expensive here in Australia. It needs to be hypoallergenic because Lee will still have chemo for the next two years and his immune system will be low plus he wants it to sleep with him and he can't have hair shed all through his bed. Most shelters are empty of puppies due to COVID and he really does need a puppy to grow with him, not an adult dog. We think this could bring Lee such peace while he's trying to regain his strength and return to normal life.  We thought about approaching a charity but often it takes 6 months to a year to get a request for something like this approved and Lee needs a puppy to look forward to after a day at the hospital and treatment sooner rather than later.
