What is AfroYanga
AfroYanga (also meaning ‘African Pride’) is a Living Free UK initiative aimed at empowering and celebrating LGBTIQ+ Africans, asylum seekers, and Refugees by delivering tailored services and organising events throughout the year.

About Living Free UK
Living Free UK is a registered community interest company founded in 2018 from the struggles of millions of LGBTIQ+ Africans who are still battling with their sexuality and gender identity.

During the 2020 global pandemic, we secured funding to provide £50 food vouchers for 20 LGBTIQ+ Africans and asylum seekers in the UK. We also offered six sessions of free therapy to 10 LGBTIQ+ Africans in the U.K
Our events and initiatives have created digital and physical spaces for Queer Africans, Asylum Seekers, and Refugees in the UK.

Why do we need this Hardship Fund?
Structural inequality, systemic racism and the phobia against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer plus (LGBTIQ+) individuals are deeply embedded within our society and public infrastructure. This can be seen in the exclusion faced by African LGBTIQ+ individuals and asylum seekers because of their sexual orientation and gender identity, which have caused a toll on their mental health and quality of life.

Your donation will provide culturally appropriate and holistic counselling and therapy at £100 per session with light refreshment.

Currently, asylum seekers are not allowed to work, and some have no recourse to public funds. Your donation will help towards our hardship fund of £80 for food per week per person and £25 for phone data, and £50 for bodily essentials per month for each beneficiary.

Your donation will also provide training, certifications & licences such as Cyber Security, Business Analysis, Digital Marketing, Door Supervision licence, etc., to LGBTIQ+ asylum seekers for £600 per person.
Your donation will also provide financial support for staffing, volunteer expenses, and other related emergencies.

By addressing their needs, we aim to contribute to the stable support and well-being of LGBTIQ+ Africans, asylum seekers and refugees in the U.K.
