Our names are Brianna Brothers and Sophia Loreto, friends of families in Altadena who have recently lost everything in the Eaton Fire. In light of the devastation currently rampaging through Southern California, we are reaching out to procure support for the thousands of people who have lost their homes, belongings, livelihoods, and hope as a result of the Palisades and Eaton Fires.

As members of the community who remain relatively unaffected, we have observed that despite the devastation, life continues. While many return to work and school, we want to help our neighbors maintain a sense of normalcy.

Black, Latino, and other families of color largely populate the areas affected by the Eaton Fire. Many of them have lost homes that have been in their families for generations—homes that they could not afford if purchased today. They are struggling to figure out immediate next steps: food, shelter, clothing, and dealing with insurance claims. The last thing they want to ask for are hair products—especially those tailored to their specific kinky, curled needs.

As young women of color, we understand the gravity of natural hair maintenance and its direct effects on confidence and opportunity. It’s 2025, and most girlie pops have mastered their hair routines and have cultivated their assortment of products accordingly—now they need to start from scratch. Though generic toiletries are appreciated at donation centers, we believe it is important to be intentional with donations and who is receiving them.

We bring these points up today to ask for donations to buy hair supplies. We are working with donation centers throughout LA to make care packages for people of color to help restore their confidence in this confusing and catastrophic time.
