East Africa Famine Fund

Just over two weeks ago my mum showed me a video  (scroll down for the video) that left me feeling distraught and despairing. It was of two orphaned children on the verge of death due to starvation. I decided there and then that I wanted to be a part of the solution. Since then I have been researching the humanitarian crisis that is the East Africa Famine. It is largely caused by a severe, ongoing drought and it affects 10 million people... (cont'd below the video)


This is not a new problem, it has been happening since 2011 - but it is only now that I fully appreciate how truly heartbreaking this situation is and the monumental team effort required to solve this crisis. I am hoping to raise enough money to send a container ship full of food, medical supplies and clothing to a village in Kenya (one of the increasingly affected areas) by the end of my university semester this year (Dec 2017). 

I am fully aware of the number of issues the world is faced with everyday: from famine, to war, to refugee crises, human-trafficking and terrorist attacks. Long-term sustainable solutions are what are required for future generations, but the reality of the situation is that these children will never know that future if they don't have food to survive now. This project alone will not solve the problem, but every little bit counts.

I am currently in my fourth year of medical school in Melbourne, Australia; I one day hope to continue helping on a larger scale with my training. But as of right now, I'm asking that we team up and do this one small bit by either donating, sharing this page or getting in contact with words of encouragement.
