I'm happy to announce that I've been admitted to the BRIDGES Academic Leadership for Women program. (http://fridaycenter.unc.edu/pdep/bridges/.)
The program is designed to help women in higher-education administration gain and strengthen leadership skills, as well as to help them move into leadership roles. This year's focus is on "transformational leadership," a theme that particularly lends itself to my professional mission of increasing educational equity on all levels.
Unfortunately, my employer is unable to help fund my tuition, and I am unable to save up the money on my own in time for the July due date. That's why I'm asking you for help.
I can't offer much in the way of tangible thanks to my funders, but I will send thank-you notes to everyone who contributes and also pledge to send each supporter a short letter after each of the course's four weekends (September 5-6, September 26-27, October 24-25, and November 21-22) summarizing my progress and discoveries. All you need to do is give me your email address. Of course, if you'd rather skip reading the letters, I won't be offended: I know we all get more than enough email!
I can also promise you that I will use this experience to help further my personal career goal of ensuring that first-generation, under-served, transfer, and other non-traditional college students have improved access to college educations and get the support they need to graduate once they're admitted.
You may have noticed that the tuition quoted on the BRIDGES information page is $1700. I am asking for a bit more than that to help cover GoFundMe's fees, which include a 7.9% fee on each person's donation.
If I'm able to raise all the funding I need in advance of July 1 or if I receive assistance from other sources, I will revise my goal downward or end the fundraising. I don't want to take more than I need!
I sincerely thank you for taking the time to read this. Small amounts will add up quickly and mean a great deal.
