A Fire in Ridgewood

I hope that no one ever has to write about or face an experience like this; however, my family is in desperate need. We faced an unfortunate-traumatic event that was out of our control that took place in our apartment on April 14 approximately around 12:30 AM. My family and I live in a 2-family apartment building on the second floor. Both apartments are on the second floor and they face across from each other just a few feet away. I live with my Step-mom who takes care of me and 3 younger siblings; 2 of my siblings are still young at just 8 and 9 years old.


It was a typical Wednesday night; everything was calm, my family and I had gone to sleep around 11:40 PM. Around 1 AM; My step-mom woke up screaming for everyone to wake up and to get out of the apartment immediately. that’s when I knew something was wrong. She was woken up by sirens, and the next-door neighbor’s kids screaming in the hallway. When she looked out the window, she saw fire embers falling from the roof of our apartment. That’s when she told us the building was on fire and screamed for everyone to get out as quickly as we could. When we opened our apartment door all we saw were flames burning in our neighbor’s apartment and fire in the hallway. 

 
My family and I barely made it out safely; but extremely grateful we got out. Neither of us were able to grab any of our items as we ran out of the building. We stood outside watching our home burn. As the firefighters fought to put out the fire, we realized we lost everything. Clothes, furniture, and most importantly, the place we called home with all of our memories.  


I made this GoFundMe in hopes of helping my Step-mother and her family to  recover from this to get back on their feet from this unexpected tragedy during these hard times. During these difficult times, anything will help us out; we’re greatly appreciative of any donations made to our family.
