Emergency Relief for Earthquake Survivors in Kunar & Nangarhar, Afghanistan
On 31 August 2025, a powerful 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan, devastating Kunar and Nangarhar provinces. The shallow quake, followed by strong aftershocks, flattened entire villages and left thousands of families trapped under rubble or displaced with nowhere to go.
- Over 2,200 lives lost
- More than 3,600 people injured
- Nearly 8,000 homes destroyed – with some districts reporting that 90% of houses are gone
- Around 84,000 people affected, many of them children, now facing homelessness and hunger
Families are sleeping outside without shelter, clean water, or food. With roads blocked by landslides, humanitarian aid is struggling to reach many communities. The situation is urgent—without immediate help, survivors risk disease, malnutrition, and exposure as winter approaches.

My name is Tamim, and I am originally from Afghanistan, Nangarhar region. I now live in Melbourne, Australia, but I still have family, relatives, and close community ties in the affected provinces.
