Hello, I am Sarasota County Sheriff Kurt A. Hoffman and I want to tell you Deputy Mubarak's story.
Deputy Mubarak worked for many years as an interpreter helping the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps throughout Afghanistan. For all of his dangerous and hard work for our country, he was given citizenship for himself, his wife, and children. Until just a few days ago, his brothers and sisters and their children were in Kabul trying to avoid Taliban checkpoints and get to the airport. Thankfully, after several attempts, they were able to get on a relief flight out of Afghanistan with the clothes on their back. Because of Deputy Mubarak's work helping our military, his family was in immediate and direct danger from the Taliban seeking retribution. After Deputy Mubarak was granted citizenship, he applied and was accepted to become a deputy sheriff in Florida, and is now giving back by protecting his community. Thirty-three of his family members, including nearly two dozen women and children, have now safely made their way to America, free from Taliban control and free to go to school, work, and do all the things we take for granted.
This fund has been created to help the family of a courageous Afghan interpreter who has worked side-by-side with our military, relocate his family to Florida.
This family will have an immediate need for housing, food, and clothing until they can obtain employment. They are currently in the process of applying for their Special Immigrant Visas (SIVs) and will be on their journey to Florida in coming weeks. Please help us give these brave men, women, and children an opportunity to live the American dream.
We will continue to update this page as progress is made. If you would like to discuss opportunities for alternative contributions in support of Deputy Mubarak's family, please contact us at [email redacted].
