I am on a quest to raise money for my son Joshua - his medical needs and past and current medical bills, co pays, and prescriptions. I want to do something I love FOR someone I love. I'll be running 1000 miles over the course of two months, and hopefully raising money, as well as awareness, towards these incredibly rare genetic disorders that my son, and others like him, suffer from.
For those of you who don't know Joshua, he is a 7 year old boy who is missing a portion of his 4th chromosome. His syndrome is so rare, there is not yet a name for it. As of right now, doctors are saying he is currently the only person living with this. There have been 35 other cases in medical history.
Joshua is missing genes to many of his vital organs because of this partial chromosome deletion. He has a heart murmur and a blood disorder. He has a history of seizures, and is severely behind in his physical and cognitive development. He has autism and ADHD, and turrets - both vocal and physical ticks. He sees many specialists at Cohen Children's Medical Center on Long Island, to include hematology, gastroenterology, urology, neurology, genetics, cardiology, infectious disease, and mental/behavioral health.
Joshua's life expectancy is much less than yours or mine...I'd like to do what I can to make him as comfortable and healthy as possible. With some help from you, he can receive the proper surgeries, treatments, medications, and therapies. I would also like to donate a portion to Cohen Children's Medical Center for the OUSTANDING treatment Joshua has received from them so far. Their doctors and nurses, housekeepers, admins, and all other staff are so positive and kind and supportive. They make Joshua's frequent visits so much easier for him to tolerate.
