Hi folks, my name is Rex Thomson, and I need your help.  You may know me as that guy who takes pictures at concerts, that weirdo in the sash or just that random dude who walked up and stated telling jokes.  Several years ago I was given a terminal diagnosis for a variety of chemically caused issues stemming from my thyroid gland going bad and undiagnosed, due to my lack of insurance at the time.  Thanks to the healing power of music and following my dreams, I've managed to outlive all predictions my doctors made.  While my health is still deteriorating, I am still out there doing what I love the most and sharing it with the world.

Last November, a new pain in my belly started.  Having let my insurance lapse due to a lack of funds, I resisted going to the doctor as long as possible, til the pain forced me to the hospital.  I had apparently developed Diverticulitis, and a puncture in my colon wall was spilling out poison into my body.  After many insanely expensive tests and a pair of emergency surgeries they managed to save my life.   Complications from the surgeries and recovery led me back to the hospital many times, and though they continued to keep me alive, my medical bills acrued at an alarming rate.  Unable to work, my savings quickly drained and I slipped into debt, with the constant calls and threats from collection agencies a consant reminder of my situation.

Upon first receiving the news of my original thyroid condition over a decade ago, I decided to not waste anymore time and set out to live the life I always wanted.  For the past several years I have been roaming the country photographing concerts, filming interviews and performances with your favorite acts and then sharing them with the world. I've met thousands of wonderful people, heard countless hours of incredible music and had the opportunity to do things I never dreamed possible.  I've tried to spread my good cheer, positivity and my message of hope in the face of darkness wherever I have gone, and the responses of love and smiles has made all the pain and fear worth it for me.  There isn't much money in what I do, but I've managed to scrape by, til now.

I was so inspired by the kindness and love of the people I was meeting on the concert and festival circuit to start filming a documentary about the magic I was seeing, called Rex-A-Vision.  Here's a snippet of the pilot telling part of the story.

A couple of investors found my story inspiring, and decided to help.  A travel fund was set up, gear was purchased and I set off to make a documentary I hoped would inspire folks to follow their own dreams, and to not let a precious minute of life slip past them.

After six months of being unable to work, trapped in bed in terrible pain, I was finally cleared to go back on the road to finish what I had started.  Not even a week into the filming and my beloved Toyota Corolla died on me stranding me in the mountains of Colorado, couch surfing with the extended network of amazing people I have met on my journey through life. And that's whats brought me to this point:

I need your help.

Though it's embarrassing and painful to ask for help sometimes, I just don't see any other way around it.  I'm trapped far from home, with no money to pay the bills waiting for me there.  I set out to show the love in the music scene specifically, and the world in general, and now I'm hoping there's enough of that love to help drag me out of this massive hole I've found myself in.  This money I'm asking for isn't going to the production of the documentary, or my travel...it's going to help me save my life.  The constant stress is eating me alive, my credit is destroyed and this is my last hope for turning this all around without losing everything I have worked so hard to build.

The documentary is still filming, and I truly want to finish what I started before my time runs out.  I wanted to show the healing power of love, and the magic that happens when you dedicate your life to making the world a better, happier place.  Now I find myself hoping against all hope I can have that magic save me.  I already do all I can for anyone, from taking and sharing photos, giving rides and advice and just plain being there for those who need me, so I have no special rewards to offer.  I just have my word that I will never stop trying to make the world a better place for as long as I am in it.

Now I need help from all of you.  Thanks for your time, and if you can help, it would mean more to me than you could ever know.

I love you all.
