Medical Flights for Nicholas

Donation protected

I have had the pleasure of working professionally with Nicholas since he was 3 years old. In those 18 years I have developed a close personal relationship with him and his family.

From an early age, Nicholas has suffered from several complex, life altering medical issues. His aliments include severe gastrointestinal disease, infectious triggered autoimmune encephalitis, encephalopathy with autoimmunity and neuroinflammation, and a seizure disorder.

Enduring these ailments on a daily basis has certainly been challenging for Nicholas. His parents have made it their personal mission to seek out the best medical care and treatments, so that he can achieve the best possible outcome for his daily quality of life.

I have witnessed this family over the years travel all over the country to numerous specialists, seeking treatments for Nicholas. Expenses for these treatments have been mostly self-funded as insurance coverage for these procedures are typically not covered. Autoimmune encephalitis is not a common disorder, however the treatments they have sought out have had a significant positive response.

Traveling with these medical conditions presents a very unique set of challenges. In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, traveling has become even more of a challenge and presents severe risks for individuals with compromised immune systems such as Nicholas. He and his parents have been fortunate enough to partner with AeroAngel, an aviation charity that provides transportation for individuals traveling to distant lifesaving medical care. Flights are only provided to those with no other safe travel options, such as commercial air travel. AeroAngel was founded in 2010 to meet an unmet need for transportation, often on short notice, to distant medical facilities for passengers whose fragile or compromised health precludes conventional means of travel.

There is no cost to any of the families for the AeroAngel flights as they are completely dependent on donations to cover the costs. 97% of donations go directly to the cost of the flights.

Nicholas's family is extremely grateful for the generosity of AeroAngel and the AeroAngel family of donors as their contributions have provided Nicholas with a safe method of travel allowing him to receive this much needed medical treatment.

Nicholas and his family have a goal of raising $50,000 on behalf of AeroAngel and for future families to have the same opportunity of a much needed travel solution for individuals and their families. They personally understand the positive impact these flights can have on an entire family and their wish is to "pay it forward".
