La Vuelta is a POC-led company, born in 2013, as Circo La Vuelta to Puerto Rican artists, Jean Carlos Claudio and Raquel Torre in Puerto Rico. After traveling and performing around the world, then settling in Chicago in 2016, they rebranded and restructured La Vuelta to better integrate its work to this city. Settling in the Puerto Rican and Hispanic hotspot, Humboldt Park, they connected with the established UrbanTheater Company and the Puerto Rican Cultural Center for work and guidance, further influencing them to define themselves as a community-rooted collective. They are not here to save anyone, but rather to serve and be a lively part of this loud and vibrant Boricua community, thriving and bearing fruit within Chicago’s existing tapestry.

Chicago is well known for its creative circus and theatre scene. But for a city that is at least two-thirds Hispanic and African-American, we have seen first-hand how that isn't represented in the current roster of performing circus artists in the city, let alone in the leadership of circus companies and venues.

While we all continue to struggle with the pandemic’s effects on the performing arts and financial hardships, La Vuelta pushes forward manifesting its mission and vision via concrete actions. We are creating a safe and accessible training space for ourselves and those in our neighborhood community. But we need your help.

Some of the world’s best performers have trained and honed their skills right here, but then they leave for other parts of the world in search of regular work as performers. La Vuelta's arts cooperative space will not only be a POC-owned and operated training venue, but also a creation incubator and performance space. Our mission is to contribute to the already active web of artists and creators by making performing arts accessible to all. An important piece of this tapestry is training and mentorship, as exemplified by Ivan Vega, executive director of UrbanTheater Company. Ivan has generously opened the doors of UrbanTheater for us to begin teaching classes in a safe manner, following all current COVID-19 protocols.

SO, we have a space in which to implement our curriculum of creative workshops, but we need our aerial rig and mats. We need your contribution to bring this beautiful addition to Chicago’s performing arts community.

No contribution is small!

This is the rig that, with your help, we will be able to buy!
