I am raising money for my little sister from the Big Brother's Big Sister's program to go to College and achieve the American Dream by becoming a Forensic Anthropologist.
Monica is the epitome of how resilience and consistency in excellence triumphs, THE AMERICAN DREAM.
When she was 10 years old, her parents had to return to Mexico because of immigration issues. She had to choose between living in Mexico with her parents or staying in the US alone to continue her education. She chose the hardest decision, to stay in the US. She was resilient.
She struggled emotionally because she no longer had her parents. She attended seven different schools. She was forced to go from one family member's home to another, finally ending up at her Aunt's where 8 people live in a small two bedroom, one bath apartment. She was forced to complete her schoolwork after 10pm, when the house was quiet enough for her to study. She was resilient.
She aslo struggled financially because her father is the only breadwinner and could not afford to provide her with a comfortable lifestyle. She was resilient.
Most of us would have given up. Not only did Monica NOT give up, she let her struggles motivate her to excellence.
Monica is graduating with a 4.1 GPA!
