Ted Varney Support Fund

Donation protected
Updates on Ted Varney - Welcome to Ted Varney's page where we are hoping to raise some funds to assist Dad and to help transport and relocate him to North Carolina since he will be unable to care for himself any time soon or perhaps at all in the future, nor does he have a place to return to in Florida.  Dad did not really have a lot of retirement planning or funds and I have applied to different facilities in NC and for support to have him transferred from the Avante Facility in Lake Worth to Charlotte, NC. I am learning more than I need to know about Medicare and Medicaid and so far it is disappointing. Dad has made such huge improvements despite the odds, but we have a long way to go.  Dad suffered severe brain injury from falling several times, and was found unresponsive on June 5th in his home for which he was hospitalized and had emergency brain surgery upon arrival to St. Mary's in West Palm Beach, Florida in order to remove blood clots. He was in ICU for 28 days, a rehabilitation type facility for 25, then to Skilled Nuring for one day and then back to the hospital with complications to his Tracheatomy and Feed Tube for 5 days.  He has been in Skilled Nuring again for about 55 days or so now (today is 9/13/14) and is still reliant on his feeding tube.  He attended Paris American High School in Paris France for any of those classmates who may read this. Dad is now 68 years old and has a long road ahead of him. I do not like asking for charity, in fact I am usually the one giving and want to continue doing so to the charities who rely on me, however unexpected expenses such as these can add stress, impact jobs/careers and continues to take energy away from us handling this tragedy remote or in person.  My Brother lives in Colorado now and me and the rest of Dads family are in Asheville, NC area. The expenses not including what Dad is incurring has reached approximately $15,000 for airfare, and private nurses, Dads expenses not covered by insurance.  We are fortunate to have generous friends so we do not have to pay for cars or lodging during our visits alternating every two weeks between my Brother and I.  We now reached the phase where he will need to be close to family so he continues to improve as right now they keep him heavily medicated unless a family member is there to watch him.  It is sad and unfortunate but none of this planned for this type of event this including my Dad. He will not be able to return to the Condo he was living in prior to this injury.
Thank you for reading, his Daughter Laura Varney, Charlotte NC xoxoxo
