Grit's Leg Amputation

Hi Friends,
Most of you know our little girl's story but for those who don't, I would like to share it.
Meet Grit:
She is our 3 year old Chow/Malinois/Ridgeback mix, rescued 2 years ago. She had an awfully rough and abusive life before she became part of our family, which has now left her in need of a leg amputation.
Before we adopted Grit, she was found in Baltimore tied to a fence so tightly that her collar became embedded in her neck. There is also evidence that she was stabbed, according to our vet. Because of this, she suffered nerve damage to her shoulder and her muscles atrophied, which disabled her to some degree. She is unable to weight bear on her paw in a normal fashion. Sadly, it hampered her ability to walk properly, run and jump just as a puppy should be able to do.
My husband, John, and I worked with her every day to regain her strength, and we’ve made a lot of progress. Despite the fact that she is now able to play like a normal dog should, she didn't fully heal. As a consequence of her past life, Grit is not able to lay her paw flat, nor does she have full range of motion in her shoulder. Over time, it has caused her to wear down the quicks in her nail, wear down her paw pads (in some places to the bone) and has caused abscesses and infections. After a very short period of play, she becomes extremely exhausted and gives up..
We have had multiple doctors look at her leg and the final decision is amputation, in mid July, to prevent further damage to her paw. Regrettably, this came at an awful time for John and I. My sweet husband, who is putting me through nursing school, and I just cannot afford her surgery.
Our hopes are that we are able to raise any amount that can be put towards little Gritty Bear's amputation. We are truly thankful to have each and every one of you as support and encouragement during this difficult time and we would forever be grateful for your contribution.
