Adric's Autism Evaluation

I'm Tricia, and I would like to introduce you to my son. Adric is my fun, kind, sweet 6 year old, but he is not normal. When Adric was around 2 he started to become a very picky eater and over time the list of foods he would eat got shorter and shorter. During this time my husband and I also noticed other things, wearing clothes with tags was difficult, socks and shoes were impossible, he always had to be touching someone, and he walked on his toes a lot. I was at my wits end and finally took him to the doctor for his eating issues. The doctor told me it was just a phase, but I fought for my child -- I knew he wasn't okay. Fortunately, we have a good pediatrician and he immediately gave me a referral for an occupational therapist and a physical therapist.
When we went to therapy for the first time I had to complete a paper evaluation of Adric's habits. At the end of the evaluation he had scored just 13 out of 100 points and the Occupational Therapist confirmed he had Sensory Processing Disorder. It was an awful day, and a hopeful day. It's hard to see on paper that something is wrong with your child, but it's so good to get answers.
Over a year has passed since his SPD diagnosis and now our insurance will no longer pay for his therapy and new symptoms have shown their ugly head. I now believe that in addition to SPD my little guy is on the Autism Spectrum. In order to receive services for Adric and for our insurance to cover the expensive OT/PT and Applied Behavioral Therapy Adric must be evaluated at an autism center. There are only 14 centers in MI and each has a wait list of at least 6 months. We have finally been able to schedule an appointment! Unfortunately, our insurance does not cover the evaluation and we have to pay for it out-of-pocket. Our appointment is January 10, and we will have to travel over an hour from our home for the all day evaluation. The funds from this campaign will cover Adric's evaluation and our travel expenses. If you know Adric, you know he doesn't like new things, or changes so we are hoping to make this a good experience for him. We want him to feel safe, loved, and cared for, any help you can give will be so appreciated! Thank you in advance.
