Fighting cancer, against the odds

Donation protected
March 11, 2017 was a nightmare for me and my family. At just 29 years old, I was diagnosed with Stage III Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. ⁣

Since my diagnosis, I’ve been treated at Miami Cancer Institute, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (NYC), and UM Sylvester Cancer Center. To this day, I’ve been infused with over 80 bags of chemotherapy, fought through an autologous stem cell transplant, and completed the newest Car-T Cell treatment.⁣

All four plans of treatment thus far have resulted in disappointments. Every time I have felt like I have finally won the battle, there’s been indications that my cancer didn’t respond well to treatment, and that it was making a rapid comeback.⁣

After the news that my last treatment didn’t go as planned, both former medical teams in Miami and New York left me with very little options for continuing my fight. From their stand point, there was less than a 10% chance of getting me cured.⁣

I followed my intuition for a second opinion. I told my family and fiancé that I wanted a consult with MD Anderson, in Houston Texas, the #1 cancer center in the US. ⁣

This week in Texas, I was presented with viable options that could save my life. The doctor recommended radiation therapy along side a clinical trial infusion. I’ll be undergoing radiation every week-day for four weeks, and will be administered the infusion every 3 weeks for at least four sessions, or longer if there is progress. ⁣

The past 18 months have been extremely difficult for my family, my fiancé, and myself. Everyone’s focus has been solely on me and my fight against cancer, willing to take any measures available to bring me closer to remission.⁣

Because cancer forced me to step away from a career in banking, my parents and fiancé have managed to support me financially thus far, so that my only stress and worries would be the fight ahead. ⁣

My soon to be wife will be taking unpaid leave in order to be by my side in this next step of treatment. My mother, who’s already exhausted much of her leave of absence, and my father, will be taking turns flying to Texas to assist in my care giving. In the coming days we will have to find a temporary housing solution in Texas, where I’ll be staying for the next couple months. ⁣

Your donations will help take some of the burden off my family and fiancé. These funds will help pay medical bills, flights to and from Houston, housing costs while there and the day to day expenses of living. ⁣

Thank you for your support.⁣

GOD bless you,⁣
