Adri & The de Borba Family

Donation protected
As some of you are finding out, Adriana was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) back on February 9th. Adriana de Borba, also known as “Adri”, is the wife of Scott de Borba and mother to their little girl Emma who turned 1 this past October.

Since going to the ER in early February, Adri hasn’t been able to leave the hospital. She originally started out in the Kaiser South location (they live in Elk Grove) and was almost immediately transferred to Kaiser Roseville. Since being in Roseville, she has started her first induction period of chemotherapy.

This is only the 1st step of a very long journey to get Adri home and healthy. The ultimate goal with the chemotherapy is to get her blood count down in order to do a bone marrow transplant. They are currently having her siblings tested for a bone marrow match as this will be necessary to help cure her. If siblings do not come back matching, doctors will then turn to the Universal Donor list. Before they are able to attempt the transplant, they will need to get her leukemia count in her blood to 0% for an extended period of time. When she was first tested she came in at 90% Leukemia cells! After completing her first round of chemotherapy and weeks of antibiotics and monitoring, her count is now down to 5%-6%. This is great progress but with a fine print. If her cells keep dropping and get to 0%, she will be released home and placed on consolidation or maintenance chemotherapy. If her counts do not drop, she will stay in the hospital and need to undergo another induction period, or month of extensive chemotherapy in an attempt to get the count down to 0%. Once at a holding state of 0%, she will head to Stanford Hospital for a bone marrow transplant once they find a match.

During this time, the de Borba family will have numerous expenses during this process and fight against Leukemia. They will have extensive medical insurance deductibles, future care, gas for hospital visits, meals, etc. and because Scott has taken on the Super Dad responsibilities while still being there for Adri, he will have reduced working hours. As their friends and family, let’s stand side by side with them in their fight against Leukemia. When going through something like this, it’s important to focus all of your energy on the fight. Worrying about finances and how you’re going to pay for everything shouldn’t be something you should be worried about. We can help make this possible by reducing the added stresses of “life” (bills, meals, medical expenses…etc.). Let’s ban together and help Adri, Scott & Emma with this fight.
