MARY'S WHEELCHAIR FUND

Hi my name is Diane Fracasse and my wish is to raise funds for my friend Mary Elizabeth Atkins who was diagnosed with MS when she was 28 years old and has been battling MS for the past 18 years .I'm trying to raise funds for a standing wheelchair. I met Mary around 16 years ago and have been friends ever since. We both are the same age and both have the same Bronx attitude lol. The greatest value of having a good friend is not what you get from them but the better person you become because of them! It would be very easy for Mary to be bitter and hate but she is the opposite Mary is one of the most selfless person I know she always is willing to help others and never complains and is always there for me when I need a friend. Every year Mary raises thousand of dollars for the MS society and I know she doesn't do it for herself but for the children we see at the annual MS walk who one day may have a chance at a cure. When I first met Mary she can walk but today she can't and is confided to her wheelchair. Because of being in the wheelchair so many hours of the day Mary suffers from muscle spasms, lack of blood circulation and muscle loss. The standing wheel chair offers many health benefits previously unavailable to those in a wheelchair. By putting the body in a standing position, the chair provides users with better blood circulation, kidney and bladder functioning, as well as muscle tone and the ability to place wheelchair-bound persons in a standing position reduces muscle contracture and bone decalcification, thereby reducing the risk of osteoporosis.
