"It's A Long Road but, We'll Get There!"

I'm always being told to ask for when I need help and rarely I ever do. After nights of tossing and turning about the stress of the next few weeks, starting with today's event of Adam's cardiac procedure for Wolff Parkinson White Syndrome. I decided that I was going to ask for help for my family. Within a 4 week span, Aaron and Adam will both have surgical procedures far from home.  Adam's cardiac procedures are 3 hours from home at Duke Children's Hospital, and Aaron's spinal rod surgeries are clear cross country approximately 3000+ miles at Rady's Children's in San Diego. If you know me well enough, you know I do what I can for my family.

Until recently I had 3 part-time jobs to help pay bills. All within school hours so, we can try to avoid paying the extreme child care costs because of Aaron's special needs, due to his diagnosis of  Prader-Willi Syndrome. Fortunately, we have a great group of friends here in North Carolina that have helped me when I needed care for the boys. I Thank God we're blessed with such wonderful/amazing people in our lives.

My job on base was on contract and ended last week. My job at Old Navy I had to put on notice that I cannot work till August, they have been great so far. The last job I have is working as an EFMP respite provider for Marine Corps families, and I'm losing the one family I had due to their new orders in a different state.  Doing these trips is quite difficult and having to take time off work stresses me out. I have reached out to all my resources here and unfortunately I also don't qualify for FMLA (just 5 months short of qualifying), which makes life a little bit more interesting.

I'm definitely a strong woman but, I know when to be humble enough to ask for help. I learned alot of humbling lessons after having Aaron seven years ago. I do see other families with special needs children reach out and ask for help. Whether it be donations to help their families stay afloat, or to help get them equipment they need. We need both but, I haven't asked for help for either of them till now.

I have saved every penny I can but, of course paying bills and making the extra added trips to Duke  Children's Hospital have been tough. The money donated will be used to pay for medical expenses not covered by insurance, to help with travel expenses for medical care, and possibly get a large wagon or all-terrain stroller for Aaron to make North Carolina more accessible for our family.

I am truly grateful for your generous donations, prayers, and I thank you in advance for supporting our family.

Sending my love,

Nellie
