On October 9th, 2025, our 20-year-old son Sean’s life changed forever. He had recently reached a goal he’d been chasing—getting his first opportunity to work in the central Alberta oil patch. He was proud, excited, and finally breaking into the industry he’d worked hard to join.

Sean wasn’t working the day of the accident. He had taken his Pontiac out to Saskatchewan to visit friends and was on his way back home. During the long drive, he blinked for just a moment too long, and the sharp shoulder of Highway 884 pulled his car off the road. His vehicle left the highway and continued into a nearby field, where Sean was thrown from his seat into the back. He couldn’t move.

He had broken his T5 and T6 vertebrae, resulting in a T4 SCI – ASIA A classification. Sean is now paralyzed from the mid-abdomen down. Doctors have told us he will not walk again. In a split second, a young man’s path and future were rewritten.

His mother has been at Foothills Hospital with him every day since. Sean is strong, determined, and recovering well, and we’re hopeful he can be transferred to Red Deer by mid-December so rehab can continue closer to home.

Now we’re facing the next big step: preparing our home so Sean can safely return. We’ve begun major accessibility renovations, including expanding and rebuilding the downstairs bathroom, redesigning and widening the entryway for wheelchair maneuverability, installing a chair lift, and more. These changes aren’t luxuries—they’re necessities for Sean’s independence, comfort, and quality of life.
