We are a family that wants to bring our sister/daughter/niece/cousin back home. Adina was already suffering financially in Puerto Rico but Hurricane Maria wiped out the little savings she had managed to tuck away.
Adina and her three kids have had to stand in line for 8 HOURS for ice. Yeah... ice.
I know it's tempting to give to big organizations, you feel like it's a safe bet... but this is a SURE nonbet. This money will go directly to the person who needs it most.
We asked for $1500 because that would pay for plane tickets which is what we (her family) want (we miss her and it scares us that none of us can fly there or drive there and help) or, she can use it to help her rebuild her life there if she so chooses. Either way, it's going to impact one family in a HUGE way. The big orgnaizations have their place, but I can tell you from being here in Houston... each person gets none or a little tiny almost not very helpful slice of the pie. You can know exactly who and how you helped a specific person.
