Help Adelaide Vocal Eisteddfod Pay Accompanists
Hi! My name's Fiona and I volunteer my time to organise the Adelaide Vocal Eisteddfod.
After many years of competing as a young(er) singer, one of the things I always wished the Adelaide Eisteddfod would do was provide accompanists for the singers. Entering competitions is an important step for all young and emerging singers; competitions provide performance experience, feedback from experts in the field, a networking opportunity to meet and hear other performers, and, if you are lucky enough to win, prize money and accolades that can help with finding further opportunities. The downside of entering competitions is that they can be expensive endeavours. Entry fees add up quickly, and the additional expense of accompanists can make participating in these competitions too expensive for young people.
To combat this inequality, the Vocal Eisteddfod now allows backing tracks for singers 15 years and under, however, it is such an important experience for young singers to work with a pianist, and I think it is only fair that all singers get that experience.
This year's Vocal Eisteddfod will be held in May and I'd love to raise some money that can be put towards covering some of the accompanist cost for singers. If we can raise $2,500 then nearly all of the sections can have provided pianists, so singers only have to pay their entry fee and any rehearsals they would like with the pianist. Donations through GoFundMe will be automatically transferred to the Adelaide Eisteddfod Development Fund, so you can be assured the money will be spent correctly. Please help if you can.
