This is our daughter Addie. When she was just a few weeks old she was diagnosed with a metabolic condition known as PKU. People with PKU can not metabolize phenylalanine, an amino acid found in most natural proteins. The effects of PKU if not found early can be devastating. The treatment for PKU is a diet low in natural proteins. Addie currently eats the natural protein equivalent of one egg each day. The rest of her protein is provided through special medical formula.
PKU affects only 1 in every 10,000 people, which makes it exceedingly rare. Because the disorder is so rare, pharmaceutical companies don’t devote a lot of resources to developing treatments for PKU. Therefore, grassroots fundraising is the BEST way to generate capitol for research and development of treatments. This is where we need your help.
On Thursday, October 25, 2018 there is a fundraising dinner and auction in New York City called Lifting the Limits for PKU. The $5600 being raised here will go directly to funding a table at this event. All proceeds that are raised at the dinner will go directly to the NPKUA Fund, a campaign created by the National PKU Alliance, a nonprofit 501c3 entity. This fund has been specifically developed to advance the science of PKU by funding the most promising and peer reviewed research that will lead to new therapy discoveries and a cure.

UPDATE: Well, thanks to everyone’s generosity we have exceeded our $5600 funding goal!!!! We have expanded our funding goal to $7700 to reach the next donation tier with Lifting the Limits.
