<div>Turner and I will be celebrating four wonderful years of marriage this July. Becoming parents is something we’ve both dreamed of our entire lives. From a young age, we found ourselves in caregiver roles due to the challenges life handed us early on. When Turner was just 7, he lost his father in a wildland fire and stepped up to help care for his two younger sisters. At 16, I supported my family through my mom’s battle with breast cancer, helping to care for my four younger siblings. Nurturing others has been woven into who we are, and we’ve always looked forward to the day we could raise children of our own. We never imagined it would be so difficult.

<div>After eight months of trying to conceive, I sensed something wasn’t right. I attempted to join a waitlist at a fertility center expecting to start testing at the typical 12-month mark, but was surprised when they got us in immediately. Initial testing revealed that I have endometriosis and a severely diminished ovarian reserve. However, little did we expect another curve ball. Turner was also diagnosed with non-obstructive azoospermia. A largely unexplained and unexplored condition. Unfortunately and unexpectedly, we were now facing dual factor infertility.

<div>We were devastated.

<div>IVF wasn’t just our best shot—it was our <strong>only</strong> shot. And even that came with crushing odds of less than 10% success rates for our situation. Turner will need invasive surgery to retrieve sperm with no guarantees of quality or quantity. My chance of obtaining eggs are not much better. We expect maybe 1-2 eggs if any from one round of IVF. The alternative paths, we were told, adoption or living child-free. We spent months grieving the life we thought we’d have. However, once we came to accept our reality, we then decided: if there’s even a small chance, we want to fight for it.

<div>We’re scheduled to begin our first IVF cycle in mid-July. The total cost? Around <strong>$25,000</strong>. And that’s just for one round. There could potentially be many more. Once we exhaust our IVF resources, we will look into adoption. But even those costs can range anywhere from <strong>$80,000 to $100,000</strong>, and our insurance hardly covers any of it.

<div>We’ve always worked hard and lived within our means, avoiding student debt through scholarships and jobs. Now, we’re throwing everything we have into this. I pick up extra ER shifts as a nurse. Turner works full-time during the summer and part-time during the school year as an engineering intern. Then together, we spend every spare moment growing our 3D printing business, which was originally meant to help with school costs and rent, but now funds our medical bills.

<div>While others our age spend their summers traveling or relaxing, we’re working nights, weekends, and every spare moment. <strong>Why? </strong>Because this dream is worth it.

<div>There is much we don’t know and more we will discover as time goes on. But we have faith that our family will grow in the way God wants it to. As long as we give all we have, He will make up the rest.
