Nursing Internship to Haiti

Donation protected
Hello to all of my wonderful friends and family! As most of you know, recently went back to school to pursue a bachelor’s in nursing at Denver School of Nursing. What you might not know is that during this time I became involved with a club called Global Health Perspectives and discovered my passion for community outreach. For the last 12 months I have been involved with multiple organizations around Denver that have allowed me to give back to my community. I volunteer at a shelter for battered and homeless women and children, providing childcare so that young mothers can attend GED, life skills, and parenting classes. I have also become an instructor for a program called A Matter of Balance whose focus is on educating the elderly about fall risks and fall prevention so that they can live healthy, happy, and independent lives. These two organizations have been my main focus but I also volunteered at places like The Denver Rescue Mission, Ronald McDonald House, and AfricAide. I have found so much joy by giving back locally so I figured, why stop there? This quarter I decided to take on the challenge of applying for a service learning internship with my school that would allow me to hone my skills as a nurse while giving back to people in serious need. So, after months of volunteering and a grueling application and interview process in which I competed against 30 other highly qualified applicants, I was selected as one of four students to go to Haiti this September for this once in a lifetime internship opportunity. I will be going to Jacmel, Haiti assisting with Love Takes Root, a foundation whose goals are to improve the lives of children through the provision of shelter, education, and health. I will also be traveling to Les Cayes where the Espwa Orphanage provides food and shelter for 500 children but who are in desperate need of basic medical care. I will also be assisting with health care at a birthing center called Maison de Neisance. My dear friends, my goal is to raise $2,225 by July, 30th! All funds raised will go for flights, housing, and medical outreach supplies. Any additional money raised will go towards the foundations in Haiti. Please remember that every little bit helps! I will continue to keep you updated as I learn more about Haiti in the coming months, as well as when I return from this amazing experience. Please help me in my endeavor in pursuing this once in a lifetime opportunity! I appreciate your kind hearts and generosity. Angie Leitch 1925 Pearl St. #4433 Denver, CO 80203 [phone redacted]
