Fund "A Day at the Fare" Audiobook

LISTEN TO A COMPLETE SAMPLE CHAPTER OF "A DAY AT THE FARE'S" AUDIOBOOK. (30 mins.)

This is a jumpstart of the original campaign. Thanks for getting me this far!  : )

Not yet in it's final production stages
, you can hear for yourself, in a complete 30-minute chapter, some of the progress that's been made. The audiobook is about 60% done.

It's being "read by the author" and I'm ready to resume work on it--but I goofed. This is my first time producing an audiobook and I underestimated the studio's cost of recording and editing 121,000+ words when I set the project's fundraising goal. To raise additional funding, I'm recirculating this GoFundMe campaign with the new goal of $3415, of which $1815 has already been raised.

Enjoy the attached audiobook file and please consider contributing towards me finishing the work. I promise to keep you updated. I'll begin by making a video showing  the receipt from the studio for the previous $1815 spent.

This go round, every time $100 is added to the fund, I'll book studio hours day-by-day. I'd like to complete the project by early fall.

AND... IF YOU'RE NEW TO THIS CAMPAIGN, HERE'S THE PROJECT'S ENTIRE STORY:

It took several years of research and writing to satisfactorily complete and publish my welfare success story, "A Day at the Fare: One Woman's Welfare Passage." My next goal is to make the memoir available as an audiobook so that more people, including those who are visually impaired, can benefit from its inspirational message.

Through my independent efforts and with very few resources, last November I managed to make "A Day at the Fare" available as a paperback and ebook on Amazon. Now I'm receiving requests for it in audiobook format.

This Campaign was scheduled to end April 9, but following the advice of the folks at GoFundMe, I have chosen NOT to close it out.
If you'll help me by making a contribution today, I will be able to narrate the book myself. The audiobook can be labeled "As Read by the Author!" I'm a former radio announcer whose voice has been used for the narration of a television documentary, radio broadcast commercials, and informational phone recordings at Dulles and Reagan Washington National Airports.

How Will the Money Raised Be Spent?
The $1,600.00 will cover the cost of renting a professional studio and hiring the services of a sound engineer. The per-day cost is $350.00.  With the book totaling about 121,000 words, or 332 pages, my cost estimate is based on the assumption I can complete the reading in about 4.5 days. Or I have the option of paying an hourly rate of $50.00 should I discover my voice won't tolerate so many straight hours of vocalizing.

...And the Costs for This Campaign:
I must also pay GoFundMe fees amounting to $5 per $100 in donations, plus 2.9% and .30 per donation deduction from WePay, the folks who transact the donations.

More About "A Day at the Fare"

The memoir describes how I went from a cozy middle-class lifestyle and plunged into deep poverty. It covers the harrowing three-year period endured by me and my children as I worked myself out of it. The story takes place in Jacksonville, Florida.

In addition, the book demonstrates some of the pros and cons of the welfare system.

Readers said:
"'A Day at the Fare' is a wonderful idea carried out very, very well."
-Nikki Giovanni, renowned poet, author and Virginia Tech Distinguished Professor of English

Comments from Amazon Reviewers:
- "'A Day at the Fare' broke my heart and then restored it!"
- "It is a truly inspiring story that needed to be told.
- "Great story about not allowing your temporary circumstances to dictate your victorious future!"
- "A tale of courage."
- "This is a good read. You will laugh and you will cry and you will be inspired!"

What If I Don't Reach My Stated Goal?
As I did with the physical book, I will press on no matter what.  Any money contributed will go to whatever studio time I can buy so I can at least begin the recording process. As with the book, low funding will slow the project down, but I will not let it stop me from seeing it through to a successful completion.

I even considered trying to build a recording room at home, but I live near an Air Force base. In the video you can hear a jet passing by as I'm reading.

What If I'm Lucky Enough to Raise More Than My Stated Goal?
First, I'll be doing a happy dance. Any amount above the $1,600.00 will provide me some cushioning, if for some reason I should need to rent more time to complete the project.

Next, any money raised beyond recording costs will enable me to expand marketing efforts for "A Day at the Fare."

Thanks so much for watching the video and reading about this breakthrough project. Please consider making a contribution today.

BTW: Contributor's Rewards will be fulfilled once the fundraising goal has been achieved and the campaign concluded.
