AdaptPlay: Gaming for people with Cerebral Palsy

Donation protected
Imagine not being able to use a smartphone--or a computer. What about being unable to even talk?

That's life for Jose Garcia, a high school freshman from White Salmon. His condition, called Cerebral Palsy, makes it so he has very limited control over his movements. Despite his limitations, he's bright, positive, and loves to play games, like Uno. He'd like to play Minecraft, but he isn't able to use a computer.

We're fixing that. We're a team of high school seniors from the Columbia Gorge, with members from The Dalles, White Salmon, and Hood River.  Our goal is to make a device that helps Jose play Minecraft, use a computer, and communicate better.

We're participating in an event called Project Invent--on May 18th, 11 Project Invent teams from across the United States will meet in Palo Alto for "Demo Day." Held at the Stanford d.school's campus, each team will get a chance to present their project to "top investors and tech investors."

We need your help to finish our project, and here's why.

1. More funding means we can buy better parts for Jose's device, and develop it further. We'd really like to mount it to a wheelchair for him, and buy a laptop for him to use with it.

2. We need funds for our trip to Palo Alto. This helps both us and Jose--the best invention will receive help and advice to develop into a product.

3. We'd really like to give Jose a way to speak--but text-to-speech hardware and software is often expensive. In addition, we need funds to help us develop a method for Jose to input text.

4. Finally, we want to make this project open source, and available for others with Cerebral Palsy or similar conditions.

With your help, we can make this happen. Thanks for looking, and thanks in advance for your donation!
