More information about Challenged Sailors San Diego, Inc.: The organization uses a fleet of two-person sailboats that are specifically designed for adaptive sailing. A sailor sitting in the front seat of the boat can control the steering and sails, while a volunteer companion in back gives instruction as needed. Persons with limited mobility on land can easily maneuver their sailboats throughout the bay, and experience the joy and freedom of sailing.

Your donation will specifically go towards the purchase  of a Power Assist Unit that allows those with weak upper body strength to sail the boat.  Steering and trimming the sails with a joystick module much the way they operate their wheelchair.  We can even support full quadriplegics where they sail the boat with a sip/puff device.  There are no paid positions in the organization, all monies go to support our sailors.   We offer this service at no charge to our sailors, we operate solely on donations. This power assist unit is a game changer for those that require one to sail.
