Adaptive Fly Fishing

Thank you all for taking the time to check out this page. For those of you who don’t know me my name is Mike Abbott and I am from Burlington, VT. I am a special educator, student, dog father, World traveler, diver, avid outdoorsmen and a thrill seeker. Adventure is something that has always influenced my decisions, whether that be for better or worse. This sense of adventure is what has prompted me to reach out to all of you and propose an idea for a non-profit. I would like to start an adaptive fly fishing program here in Vermont that aims to give a sense of adventure back - or give it for the first time - to those who have suffered a life-changing injury or those living with a disability.

Last year I was hit hard by a close fly fishing friend’s life-altering injury that has left us with little to no access to the water here in Vermont. This lack of access has made it apparent that there is an opportunity to provide individuals with disabilities with this unique experience. With this information, a background in special education and a love for the outdoors, I have put together the foundations that have come to form the Tasty Water's mission. We will seek to empower those living with any disability by providing them with access to the least restrictive environment so that they can, along with their families, enjoy new outdoor adventures. We will offer programs in fly fishing, casting and fly tying. We will measure our success by looking at how much of the organizations funding was used to conduct activities and for what purposes specifically, how many trips we take, how many classes we hold, and obtaining testimony from our clients and their families.

Our board of directors has been constructed and is made up of outdoorsmen and outdoorswomen, local fly fishermen and special educators. Recently, I have begun to reach out to community contacts as well as national organizations in the hope that we can find support and funding to take this organization from dream to reality. We also need your help and that is why we have made this gofundme page. I am certainly not a millionaire and as much as I would like to fund the startup of this organization, I simply don’t have the means. We are seeking a small amount of funding to assist us with those start up costs which can be found in writing on this page. We ask that if you can help, please do. No donation is too small - a share on social media can go a long way. We thank you for taking the time to visit this page. We would like to leave you with this: here at Tasty Water, we believe that no matter the obstacle there is always a way around it and we will continue to push the boundaries for the betterment of our anglers.
