I'm not great at this part but, I've been in a wheelchair for 20 years. August 23, 1997 when I was 13, I fell 40 feet out of a Poplar tree in my front yard fracturing both arms, my leg and my neck. I am paralyzed from the chest down with a C5 spinal cord injury. Fast forward 20 years and I have graduated college, moved out of my own, found some really great friends, and have recently been hired for a job that I love helping to protect our mountains in Southwest Virginia.
I love the mountains and I love the outdoors and over the years I have developed a lot of friendships and relationships with some really great folks that spend a lot of time on farms, riverbanks, andin the woods. As you can imagine, farms, riverbanks and woods are not exactly wheelchair friendly. With the standard insurance covered wheelchairs, I have a lot of limitations to anything off the beaten or even on the beaten path if it is not smooth enough(I regularly get stuck in gravel).
This brings me to the reason for this fundraising. My current wheelchair is old and it is time for a replacement. There are these really cool, amazing wheelchairs that are not completely covered by insurance and are built for off-road and indoor use.
Having one of these wheelchairs would allow me to get closer with my friends beyond the pavement, access the mountains, woods and outdoors in ways I never have before and participate more in the projects and work of protecting them. It would open up a whole new world that I haven't had access to in 20 years.

The wheelchair that would make this happen Is the Frontier V6 hybrid . Most of the $42,985 cost of the wheelchair will be covered by insurance, but insurance only covers wheelchair needs for use in your home. This means the outdoor motors($1,980), All-terrain package ($2,500) as well as the retractable docking pin that allows me to lock in to drive my van ($2750) have to have to be self-funded.
I have about a month for the rest of the insurance approvals to come in and to find the funding for the noncovered part. On my own, this chair is not within my reach So, with the encouragement of several friends I created this GoFundMe to try to make this chair happen.
I can't tell you how much I would appreciate every donation. I don't even really know how to measure what this means because I've never experienced the level of mobility this chair will open up.
