Who is Adam Taylor?
Adam is the no.1 ranked archer in Ireland and is hoping to become Ireland’s first archery competitor at an Olympics since 1996.
The dream
After the excitement of the London 2012 Olympics, Adam and his brother placed a whopping €5 bet with each other on which sibling would make it to the Olympics first. What started off as a light-hearted quest has since turned serious for Adam, after he took up archery and quickly fell in love with the sport.
The stats
Over the last five years he has risen to the top of the archery ranks in Ireland and has represented his country abroad at two stages of the Archery World Cup.
Although there is still a difficult journey ahead, the dream of an appearance at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo is now very much a realistic goal for Adam.
Why does Adam need your help?
The qualification system for the archery event at an Olympic Games is one which does not rely on talent alone. To make Tokyo, Adam will have to avail of one of three routes:
- Finish in the top 7 in the World Championships in 2019
- Finish in the top 3 in the European Championships in 2020
- Finish in the top 3 at one World Cup round in 2020
Not only will Adam need to work extremely hard over the three years to achieve these finishes but it will also be an extremely costly quest, with estimated self-funded expenses of €80,000 in total
With that in mind he is reaching out for support from you, the Irish public, those involved in archery and just those interested in supporting an Irish Olympic hopeful.
