Lucky's Medical Fund

Meet Lucky
He is a Blue Headed Pionus/Amazon. I rescued him on Sunday in El Valle here in Panamá (about 2 hrs away from the city); we have a house there and the caretaker found him about a year ago.

Lucky lost his left wing when he flew into some power lines. The guy cured him and put him in a hugeee birdcage with many other birds.

Because Lucky can't fly, he kept falling from the top of the cage to the bottom, hitting his head and hurting himself pretty badly every time. We also think that it's possible that he was bullied by the other birds.

On Sunday, while I was at our house in El Valle, I was taking pictures of the birds when I saw Lucky fall to the ground. He started having seizures, yelling, screaming and bleeding (it was NOT pretty). I decided to take him with me.

We all have a purpose in life, I am sure that mine is rescuing animals in need. So, welcome home baby!

I took him to the vet yesterday, amongst the million things the vet found ...the part left from his left wing is fractured and he also has a tumor (we had x-rays done), he has a serious cold which is causing him to have difficulty breathing (he is on a 10 day treatment + nebulizations to clear up his sinus) and needs surgery ASAP to remove the tumor and fracture. The vet will amputate whats left of Lucky's wing.

He will need to stay at the hospitalized for a while until he recovers.

PS: Lucky is native to Panamá and all tropical areas. He was not a pet before I found him!
