Iraqi and Syrian Refugees in Jordan

Donation protected

Greetings from the Women’s Federation for World Peace in Jordan,
At the Women’s Federation for World Peace in Jordan, we endeavor to support refugees and their families from Syria and Iraq who currently live in Jordan.  As the situations in Iraq and Syria worsen, we can only expect an influx of refugees into the region, many of whom will be ineligible or of lower priority to receive monetary aid from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) due to their recent arrivals, older age, and/or lack of family.  Refugees status in Jordan does not include work permits, so working is not an option for most refugees, so the only liquid assets these refugees have comes from the portions of their belongings that they were able to sell before fleeing their country or what they are able to bring with them and then sell.  Not surprisingly, this tends to be a small amount because of the dire circumstances that the refugees try to escape, making it virtually impossible to pay rent and medical bills or to even buy food and water.  Accordingly, the Women’s Federation for World Peace strives to provide monetary support for refugee families throughout Amman, Jordan.  This noble goal cannot be fulfilled without the generous support of private donors.  For this reason, we are fundraising to raise as much money as possible in order to support as many families as possible.
The Women’s Federation for World Peace has been working to achieve the millennium development goals in Jordan since 1994, and we have been supporting refugee families in Amman since 2007.  At this time, we support seventy refugee families, but receive at least four or five new cases to review every week.  The larger our donor pool becomes, the more cases we will be able to accept.  Without generous donations, the number of families that are unable to receive aid increases.  The one thing that refugees want the most is something we cannot give them: a home. We are, however, able to support them so that they can hopefully go home one day.  And with our support, while we cannot create peace, we can create hope for it.
Please contact us if you would like to make a difference in someone’s life,
Thank you very much for your time and consideration,

This photo gives an idea of the conditions that refugees in Amman live in.  Often there are very small houses with no windows.  Several people will live in a house like this.  They may or may not have indoor plumbing.
