I had the opportunity to travel to Dominica to provide medical care 12 days after the country was devastated by Hurricane Maria, a Category 5 Hurricane, travelling at winds of 160 miles per hour. I was part of a medical group that travelled to different villages treating patients. Having experienced Hurricane David, a category 4 hurricane in Dominica as a child in 1979, I found the destruction of Hurricane Maria to be exponentially worse than the destruction of Hurricane David. Most of the population was left without power, water, food and sanitation. In the village of Loubiere, where I was raised, 10 people are missing, feared dead due to flooding by Rivers. Islandwide, there are 28 confirmed deaths, and 32 missing persons including children. Dominica has urgent need of medical supplies, food and items for survival. Your donation will be used to provide these supplies and also used for shipping costs.
