Going to put my pride and ego aside and just ask, because sometimes that's all you can do.
In April, I received a random Facebook message from someone that I've truly grown to love and respect, and still till this day is truly opening doors for me. Simply this person asked me if I'd be willing to audition for an intensive at an acting conservatory in Chicago. I immediately said yes. A week or two later, I audition via Google and was accepted and then the imposter syndrome quickly set in. "Jermaine, you don't deserve this." "Who do you think you are?" "You're not even that talented."
However, I had to refocus and remind myself that I literally had been praying to go to Yale's graduate program for straight acting since senior year in high school. And boom! An opportunity presented itself. Let me tell y'all, I have never been more challenged, more invigorated, more inspired, and more determined than I am currently to continue to attain my dreams.
For the past five months I've been training at Black Box Acting in Chicago and this program has trained me to be fearless, to continue to work hard, to understand my worth, and has equipped me to enter into every space and audition room with confidence and trusting that I have the technique, skills, and talent to tell the truth through someone else's circumstances.
Here we are in October, and my ensemble and I was gifted the opportunity to showcase ourselves to agents, agencies, casting directors, etc. on October 18-2oth as a proper introduction to the industry. However, I need a little help. I have one more payment due to Black Box in the amount of $1,500 and I simply don't have it this time around. I apologize for the short notice, but am asking if you reading this have a few dollars to spare or know a friend that does, share this with them. Thank you for considering, this would help to alleviate some financial stress on the one big cost and help me to focus on getting my new apartment in the city, headshots and resumes printed, etc. Seriously, love you all and am immensely thankful for your consideration.
