The Alberta Critical Incident Provincial Network (ACIPN), is a nonprofit peer-led, peer-driven peer support network for public safety personnel, by public safety personnel; fire fighters, paramedics, law enforcement officers, dispatch, corrections, and healthcare workers.
The Problem:
First Responders and Healthcare Workers experience potentially psychologically traumatic events on the daily as part of their routine occupational duties. These exposures to potentially psychologically traumatic events can have serious effects on our Alberta Heroes, with 44.5% of all Canadian public safety personnel likely to experience one or more mental health disorder in their lifetime as a direct result of this exposure. These exposures contribute to the significant increased risk for suicide, a rate that is 3 times the general population in public safety personnel. Therefore, first responders and healthcare workers require evidence-informed supports that are specifically tailored to their unique needs.
The Solution:
The Alberta Critical Incident Provincial Network (ACIPN) is an internationally award-winning program designed to establish and deliver formalized training, processes and infrastructure to ensure that Alberta's crisis response peers have the best possible support to prevent psychological injury in their colleagues. Peer-led Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) peer support programming has been established as being the best method and most effective means to provide support and enable public safety personnel to fulfill their professional roles while remaining healthy and resilient.
Having a provincial network of trained peers accessible 24/7:
The trained peers that populate this network volunteer their time to provide essential support services to their colleagues across the province. There is no cost to those in need while any individual, crew or department impacted by the work that they do can access a toll free number 24/7/365 and be connected to a peer of their respective occupation free of charge. However, there are overhead costs for running, coordinating, training, and sustaining a 24/7 peer support program.
Our first responders and healthcare workers need your support to help them stay healthy and resilient within these dire and trying times during this pandemic.
