Achvat Amim - Israel/Palestine Volunteer Program
Donation protected
My name is Yitzi Gittelsohn, and I am raising $8000 by August 28 to volunteer in Jerusalem with a unique peace-making initiative called Achvat Amim . Through direct engagement with peace-building organizations, I will be able to support the self-determination of people in Israel/Palestine.
What:
I have recently been accepted to Achvat Amim (Hebrew for Solidarity of Nations), a program starting on September 4 in Jerusalem that pairs young adult volunteers with local grassroots organizations. Our conflict-resolution work will be supported by participatory learning, seminars, and Hebrew and Arabic classes. I will be in the Ruchani track of the program, which will root my service in Jewish spiritual and religious practice.
Who:
I am a 23-year-old recent college graduate with a degree in Peace Studies. My studies at Goucher College led me to seek out a lifestyle that manifests peace. Through recent experiences such as the Adamah Jewish Farming Fellowship and Romemu’s inaugural Contemplative Yeshiva program, I have developed a spiritual, communal, and environmental peace practice.
Why:
At Achvat Amim, I will draw upon my life experience to support social change and human rights movements in Israel/Palestine. I believe that I have valuable skills and ideas to offer the work that is being done there. Furthermore, the American Jewish communities I am involved in will benefit from the unique perspectives developed through on-ground peace work and education.
Where:
My community will be living in two communal houses in Jerusalem. I will live in the Ruchani house, which means my housemates and I will incorporate Jewish practice into our lifestyle.
How:
I will be able to participate in this communal peace practice with your help! I need to raise around $8000 by August 28 to pay for tuition, which includes education, housing, food, insurance, and transportation. If you would like to support grassroots social change in Israel/Palestine, consider supporting me in this meaningful journey. The five-month program begins on September 4, so I need to raise money quickly. The money raised from this GoFundMe will transfer to my personal bank account, after which I will use it to pay for my Achvat Amim tuition. I plan to reach out to my Jewish communities, friends, family, scholarship funds, and Jewish federations. Any help is greatly appreciated.
If you have any questions and would like to have a discussion with me, please e-mail me at [email redacted] or call/message at [phone redacted]. Video chatting is another option.
