A Child Loses Her Mother to Cancer

Donation protected
On December 26, 2019, the mother of a participant in Change Happens! mentoring program was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer of plasma cells leading to kidney and bone problems. Despite radiation chemotherapy treatment, the loving mother passed away on September 13, 2020 after her insufferable battle with cancer. She is survived by her 12-year-old daughter and a few older sisters. The family of the departed are seeking donations to help pay for the homegoing services of their beloved sister and the care of her daughter. The family of the departed describes the mother as the “life of the party” who exemplified love, empowerment, and encouragement to her loved ones. October 14, 2014, she demonstrated her faith and love to God by rededicating her life to Christ. She also led a faith-based ministry called, Leading Ladies Network as the Director of Celebration in May 2017.

Enduring the emotional suffering and affliction of her illness, the mother believed in the power of mentorship for the purpose of organizing additional support for her child. Without help from the daughters’ father who is currently incarcerated, hopefulness seemed unimaginable. The mother desired a healthy and supportive life for her daughter who needed emotional support during times of distress and uncertainty. The mother discovered hope and reassurance in the Change Happens!’s youth mentoring program, Mentoring Plus which provided moral support, guidance and significance to the child’s life and overall well-being. The kind and gentle bond the mother exhibited with her daughter was an irreplaceable connection that could never be restored. The importance of remembering her mother as the courageous and resilient woman she demonstrated to be is beyond indispensable to the future of the young child.

The daughter will be placed in the care of the aunt who have accepted financial and emotional responsibility of coordinating funeral arrangements and caring for the well-being of the child. The aunt desires to raise $2,500 to cover the balance of the homegoing service, hospital bills and financial responsibility of mothering the child. The family wishes to reach this goal by September 26, 2020 to respectfully celebrate the life of their loved one as well as help navigate a grief-stricken child through bereavement. We were devastated to learn that funeral services cannot proceed until the family covers the remaining balance from the funeral home. We hope with empathy and compassion that you consider donating if you are able. All donations received will be managed by the organization accounting department and will be distributed to the mentee/family. We express gratitude and appreciation for every donation during this challenging time.

Thank you,

Change Happens!, on behalf of the bereaved family.
