Accessible Living for Charlie

Donation protected
Our son, Charlie, is a brave, spirited little guy who conquers every obstacle in his path!
Despite the challenges of life-saving surgery at birth and permanent diagnoses that have led to assisted mobility via his wheelchair, standing wheeler, and KAFOs (orthotics), he perseveres and inspires everyone with his bright smile and kind heart.
We were hoping to receive funding from multiple organizations and corporations to finance our home accommodation for Charlie's independence and safety, but sadly we received too many rejections instead.
Our home requires an accessible entrance for Charlie. He will begin JK in September and it is our goal to build a legal, family-sized deck that will accommodate a wheelchair lift, as well as flat pathways, so Charlie can wheel himself out of our home and into the community on his own.

Right now, he crawls everywhere and not only does it create so much wear & tear on his hands, knees and clothes, but we are constantly worried about his safety and discouraged that we don't have an accessible area in our yard that we can all enjoy together, whether as a family or socializing with our loved ones. Charlie needs an area that is safe for him outside where he can play with friends safely; he also deserves his independence and blossoming freedom.

Through our funding applications, we have raised enough money for deck building supplies. We have a few incredibly generous friends who will help build the deck at no cost for labour! We have enough funding to pay for the wheelchair lift. But we are left with a $4000 remaining balance to pay for the pathways that will allow Charlie to move freely and unobstructed from the wheelchair lift to our sidewalk, driveway and his beloved pond where he loves to watch the frogs in our backyard.

We have been working on funding for this project for 6 months now. We were hoping to avoid crowdsourcing, but unfortunately, the organizations just seem to have too many applications and not enough funding. And no, the government does not help pay for any of these accommodations, not even the lift.

If you have the means to donate at all, we would be ever so grateful! Charlie is so excited to get his own "elevator" (i.e. the lift!) and he is so grateful that "daddy and his friends" are building him this accessible deck. If you can help with his pathways, he will finally have the chance that every other kid has - to get to school autonomously, without mom or dad having to carry him or his wheels.

Thank you so much for your kind consideration! We are so grateful.
